Monologue Drawing (The Ark)

Lying Here Perfectly Still

reading this today. 'Placebo' 'Here i am...lying next to my lover, in intensive care. slipping in and out of consciousness in shifts. Life slowly dripping out of us. Only a fifty percent chance of surviving our injuries... a twenty five percent chance we will ever speak again. We have been in a terrible car crash... and were brought to the same hospital where he works as a surgeon. He has been sleeping all of the tine that I have been awake... as he had been working the night shift. I try to leave messages for him through the nurses... but they keep changing faces. Too many drips to be changed and bloods to be drawn... and while I have been lying here perfectly still, unable to move ... staring at the ceiling counting squares... I have come to realize that I do not even know the person... who I so badly want to survive. As a mistress you fabricate the other persons life entirely in your imagination. His descriptions have always been substitutes ... ...

Due to the size of the work it was quite a challenge to photograph - but with some time and advice I was able to realize two images that were satisfactory - at this stage. I will be showing these, along side the 'Monologue Drawing' (The Ark) piece in a Salon show in the next few weeks.

Introducing Madam Pareidolia

After some weeks I feel that the only way to 'resolve' this work is to photograph and present it through that medium. I have booked a photography studio and am impatient  to see how I can formally present this piece in a way that is satisfactory to me.  Looking forward to working in the photography studio - and to see what comes from it.

Studio Progression

A few images illustrating the progression of works/installations in the studio since commencing  the 'Monologue Drawing - (The Ark)'

Monologue Drawing

I have begun a large drawing in the studio - the point of which is to explore the narrative that is evolving around current concerns within my practice. The drawing compliments the structures I am creating in the studio, and more importantly - in my head. Each works with and against the other. As the text increases in size it takes on a presence of its own and becomes more than words. It is shifting and slipping as more lines are added -the end shape will reflect the thought. The writing is 'normal' size even though the paper is over five meters long. Making progress with the drawing today - it is feeding thoughts around the other aspects of my studio  work - I knew it would. It feels good after a period of uncertainty. Things are flowing more easily now. Studio progression since the start of the Monologue Drawing. Update - it is growing.

I enjoy juxtaposing different time  periods and cultures together, specifically Religious imagery from the Renaissance and The Middle Ages with materials from the 21 st century. Although based in sculpture I would call myself more of an ‘object’ maker – within my practice I create ‘things’ which are then re-invented through a process of  curating , photography and drawing. The ‘Someone & Something’ work is a reflection of my experience in the co...

Moving the Work On - Facing Extinction

Recently I had work accepted as part of a student response to the 'Facing Extinction' 2014 show held at the University for the Creative Arts in Surrey, U.K. The show was a recreation of the iconic piece created by Gustav Metzger, 'Mass Media'. The works by students were on display for the duration of the conference which Gustav was in attendance for.  Installation view of the work 'Mass Media' 2014 The opportunity to hear Gustav speak, and also the privilege of being able to present the work I created to him in person was a great experience. The show was essentially about the challenges faced on a global level, regarding man made issues that result in a negative impact on the planet and humanity as a whole. My piece 'For The Sake Of The Species' was selected to be shown. The work was constructed as a comment on the increasing medical interventions needed to aid conception. Utilising  the medium of photography to present the work - like...

Reasons To Be Cheerful

After a difficult few weeks it feels as if things may be coming together  A submitted project proposal for a show has been accepted. Took part in a student medal project with The British Museum. Starting work experience as assistant to a practicing artist in London.  Moving Through The Spaces.

These Things

The studio space has changed beyond recognition since September. It is full of work- so important to keep current thoughts visible as it helps push ideas further.

Second Life Macquette

It is interesting to me that the metal shape suspended above the dense original takes on the form of a drawing when seen in this format.
