Removal - Vermilion Hue

'Vermilion Hue' has been removed from the space. 'Chandelier Piece - Reflection Looking In.' It is interesting to see these items initially as props - they are domestic objects - however within is contained an inherent transformative quality that is interesting as a potential to exploit. The use of the Vitrine - at the beginning I came into the space and spent time. I wanted the work to sit 'intelligently'  and have a synergie or cohesion - as if it was meant to be there. It was a large empty void, the existing materials - the glass - the metal structures are obvious and fixed. It suggested the whole was reminiscent of a large empty Vitrine. The reception area a smaller version - one space within another. A giant Vitrine within which people operate and relate. I decided not to fight the materials but extend them into the work. The Vitrine as a metaphor for control or 'containment' of a behaviour. http://juliakeenana...

Fragmentary States

Two forms of life run side by side - the actual and the desired - the desired becomes preponderant consciousness  hovering above the body - so when confronted with that state of the real it is almost overwhelming.

Reflecting

With so much glass, light and reflected space it is impossible for me to capture a satisfactory image of the installation.

Installation views - a relief to get the images up today - tomorrow the other things.

The New Body - Work in Progress

The work is progressing - there are a number of elements to be installed - keeping all of  them in mind as I make decisions is a challenge. However - things are under control and I feel it will come together conceptually.  Once all the works are together before installation I will make final curatorial decisions regarding placement. Here are a couple of images of the space -it is large and there is a huge amount of glass-just like a giant empty Vitrine.

Platform 2015

I am happy to report my selection into the first round of the 'Graduate Platform Award 2015' - Myself and eleven other recent graduates from art schools and universities in the South East have been nominated by ASPEX Gallery. The start of the process has begun and my degree show work will be included in a group show at the Gallery running through October. The Same Thing in a New Way

The New Body

I have been invited to create a new body of work to be shown in September. The space for installation is large and quite complicated - a great opportunity though! Today it starts - approaching as usual - by photographing, reflecting and making my decisions through the viewing of the images. Saturday just gone - I attended a day conference at the Freud Museum in London. This has informed my ideas. http://www.freud.org.uk/events/75977/folds-in-time-artists-responses-to-the-temporal-and-the-uncanny/ Sketch Book Time and advice would be nice.

Recent Show - SUDA

The space changed the work - but I like that. It has become another work.

New News

As a direct result of the recent Degree Show I have been invited to create a new work which will be cast in bronze, this will be a numbered limited edition of 12. The invitation comes from a traditional bronze casting foundry based in Athens. They have links here in London and with the Hellenic Foundation. I hope to show the finished work this Autumn in Athens. This is a wonderful thing.

Degree Show Preparation

Show Time
